| The Arizona Twirling Athletes began in 1975, under the direction of Becky Hewitt (see home page bio). The non-profit youth organization sponsors four baton twirling competitions each year including: Halloween, Fiesta Bowl Twirl-Pom-Cheer-Flag and Dance, Cherry Jubilee/Miss Twirling Athlete and ATA Twirler of the Year (see pictures on the competitions page). The organization also sponsors the Valley Valiant Baton Twirling Corps. The Corps performs in two televised parades and two local parades each year along with their self-built float. Their float has received many awards during the past 25 years (see pictures on the parades page). A five day overnight twirling camp is held each year during June for all levels of baton twirling (see pictures on the summer camp page). Many of the ATA students and alumni twirl with their high school and college bands (see high school/collegiate page or links below). We are also proud of the 2004 Miss Arizona - Katherine Kennedy, who began twirling with ATA when she was in elementary school (see her picture on the photo album page). |
